2007 Newsletter |
This is the initial issue of Hands & Feet—so named from the line that we are the “hands and feet of Jesus” when we do Operation Inasmuch. Hands & Feet will be sent electronically at least bi-monthly with occasional special issues. It is our way of staying in touch with everyone who believes in the ministry of Operation Inasmuch, Inc. Please note that you may unsubscribe at any time. Also, you can forward Hands & Feet to anyone you choose; just let us know so we can add them to our database.
The Why
It is not unusual to forget why a ministry was begun. Administrative challenges, fundraising, and other demands of a new ministry can shove it’s vision into the background. The story of Lexington, NC, First Baptist’s first time experience with Operation Inasmuch reminds us why God inspired the development of this model of community ministry and wants it to be spread far and wide. This story verifies what is commonly said about Operation Inasmuch: It makes a difference for people with needs; it transforms believers who participate. Read more ->
Texas—Newest State to have Operation Inasmuch
First Baptist Church, Muleshoe, TX (located in the panhandle
of TX) reports a successful Operation Inasmuch in the spring
of 2006. Pastor Seth Hickman was a member of Ardmore Baptist
Church, Winston-Salem, NC, while a seminary student. Ardmore
has done Operation Inasmuch for years. He took the concept with him to TX. Hickman attended a workshop on OIAM conducted by David Crocker in 2006 and purchased a copy of the book. First Baptist will do OIAM again this spring and bring a Church of Christ congregation in Muleshoe along.
Two other churches will soon join the TX parade of OIAM—Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church in Richardson, TX, and Concord Church in Dallas. The Executive Director of OIAM, Inc. has worked with both congregations to prepare them for their events: Canyon Creek on May 5 and Concord on June 23. Concord is preparing for 2000 volunteers in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas.
